In the case of the blackmail, Benzema was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended

French international Karim Benzema, Real Madrid’s top scorer, was convicted on Wednesday of complicity in attempting to blackmail his former team-mate Mathieu Valbuena and was sentenced to one year in prison with a suspended sentence and a € 75,000 fine.

The player’s lawyers immediately announced their 33-year-old client’s appeal. The Versailles court has handed down sentences ranging from 18 months with probation to two and a half years of imprisonment.
