India vs. England 2021: Racquets blown up during the 2nd ODI, 35 arrested

With the support of Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes, England beat India with six wickets to level the three-game series. The series decision maker should take place on Sunday (March 27th) at the same place.

However, incidents outside of the field dominated the highscoring thriller in Pune. Local police confirmed that around 35 bookmakers were arrested for alleged betting during the game.

According to the Pimpri Chinchwad Police, the bookmakers passed the information on the outcome of each delivery to their colleagues in their control center during the game at the MCA Stadium.

City Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash confirmed that the defendants worked as agents for bookmakers across the country.

Betting during cricket games is widespread in India where it is still considered illegal.

It is worth remembering that during the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) in the UAE, many betting rackets from different parts of the country were blown up.

Robin Morris, a former top-notch cricketer who also played for Mumbai and Odisha, was also arrested by Versova police for his involvement in betting.
