England captain Joe Root reinforced the team’s double century on the second day of the first Test match of the series against India (IND vs ENG) in Chennai. Root is the first batsman to score a double century in his 100th Test. Root’s double century was welcomed in a unique way by the hotel staff, which was later thanked by the England Cricket Board (ECB) for this special hospitality.
The ECB has uploaded a video on its official Twitter handle in which teams are returning to the hotel after the second day’s game against England is over. A cake is placed near the hotel gate. During this time, all the players and the staff present there are cheering for the route and they are proceeding to cut the cake. The ECB has called Thanks for Indian hospitality.
Root scored 218 runs in the first innings of the Chennai Test. The 30-year-old Root formed a 200-run partnership with Dominic Sibley. Root and Ben Stokes then added 124 runs for the fourth wicket. England scored 578 runs in the first innings thanks to Root’s double century.
England’s opener Rory Burns scored 33 while Ollie Pope was out for 34. Dom Bess also scored 34 runs while Jos Buttler was dismissed for 30 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin (Ravichandran Ashwin) took three wickets each for India. Ishant Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem had two wickets each.
