After a 3-1 loss in the Test series and a 3-2 setback in the T20I clashes with India, world champions England will try to end their tour in three ODIs to be played in Pune next week.
However, Archer will be flying home to review his injury and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said he would also have to miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) start.
That’s a blow to Rajasthan Royals ahead of the tournament, which kicks off April 9th. Archer impressed in the T20 games against India.
The ECB said on Sunday: “Jofra Archer is returning to the UK to further treat and investigate his right elbow injury.
“Archer’s elbow problem has worsened over the course of the Twenty20 International series, making it increasingly difficult for him to maintain the level of performance. He was named for the ODI series with games on March 23rd, 26th and 28th not classified as suitable for selection. “
“The ECB’s medical team will assess the player and work with Jofra to develop a treatment plan and a return schedule in due course. As a result, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League.”
The English ODI squad consists of players selected for the T20 series and the reserves for those games in addition to the apparent loss of Archer.
England Squad: Eoin Morgan (Captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Livingstone, Matt Parkinson, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley and Mark Wood.
Also on the road with the squad: Jake Ball, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan.
