“Today I have come to tell you, the entire country, that we have decided to enact all three agricultural laws in to pull,” said Modi. in an address to the nation, adding the process will be completed in a parliamentarian session later this month.
Modi recognized the importance of farmers and the challenges they have faced. He said it was a priority issue for his ruling Bharatiya Janata party.
“In this great campaign to improve fitness of the peasants, three agricultural laws were brought in the country,” Modi said.
“This law has been enacted” in with good intentions”, he continued, adding that despite his efforts, the government was not in states “making them (farmers) understand the importance” of the agricultural laws.”
In front of more than a year, Indian farmers have fought the three new laws, which they said were open to exploitation by big business and destroy their livelihood. The laws, die were hired last September, untied rules around sales and prices of Products die farmers have protected from an unregulated free market for decades.
It resulted in in some of the biggest protests die India has ever seen, and posed a rare threat to Modi’s government after he failed to put down the demonstrations.
