iOS 17 Release: Compatibility and Features
Apple has announced that on Monday, iOS 17 will be available for download on most iPhones. This announcement was made during Apple’s recent Wonderlust event, where they also showcased the new iPhone 15 models.
New Features Coming with iOS 17
iOS 17 introduces several exciting features, including StandBy mode, the Journal app, and significant Message changes. However, if you own an iPhone from 2017 or earlier, you may not be able to experience these new features.
Check if Your iPhone is Compatible.
If you are unsure whether your iPhone is compatible with iOS 17, you can easily check in your settings. Open your Settings app and go to General > About. Next to the Model Name, you will see which iPhone you have.
If your iPhone is not compatible with iOS 17, we will guide you on how to find out and provide you with a list of the best iPhones. Perhaps there is a newer model that might work for you. Additionally, we’ll explain how you can pre-order the iPhone 15.
Compatible iPhones for iOS 17
According to Apple, iOS 17 will be accessible on the following iPhone models:
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 Mini
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 Mini
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
Incompatible iPhone Models
Unfortunately, with the release of iOS 17, Apple’s latest mobile operating system will not run on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 series also stopped receiving feature upgrades with the release of iOS 16 last year and will continue to run on iOS 15.
What to Do If Your iPhone is Not Compatible?
If your iPhone is not listed above, it does not support iOS 17. You will not receive a notification to download the newest software. For instance, iPhone X and iPhone 8 will only be able to use iOS 16 as the latest software.
Although older iPhones won’t support the latest version of iOS or receive any new features, they should remain functional for some time. Additionally, Apple will continue to provide security updates for iOS 16. The latest security update for iOS 15 was released in July 2023, and iOS 16 security updates will be available in the near future.
