“Everyone in the country has been affected by this woman’s death. I don’t have the latest numbers, but I believe more than 300 martyrs have fallen in the country, including children, since this incident.”
The toll includes dozens of security personnel who have been killed in clashes with protesters or in killings, according to Iranian authorities.
The latest official toll comes closest to the number of 416 people “killed in the crackdown on protests in Iran” published by the Human Rights Organization in Iran based in Oslo.
The organization says its outcome includes victims of violence related to protests against the backdrop of Amini’s death and unrest in Sistan-Baluchestan province (southeast).
Thousands of Iranians and about 40 foreigners have been arrested and more than 2,000 people have been charged, according to Iranian judicial authorities.
Human rights organizations based outside Iran report more detainees.
Of the defendants, six were sentenced to death in first degree, in awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court on their fate in appeal.
The site web of Iran’s judiciary, Mizan Online, reported on Tuesday that the trial of a person linked to the demonstrations has begun and also faces the death penalty.
