The Marvel Cinematic Universe has reached the end of its fourth phase, the first part of the “Multiverse Saga” that Marvel just announced. The Multiverse Saga, the most profitable franchise in modern history, has a huge amount of content. Every year, several movies and TV shows come out, and there are no plans to stop in the fifth and sixth phases. But none of this would be possible if it weren’t for the first superhero.
Iron Man, which came out in 2008 and was directed by Jon Favreau and starred Robert Downey Jr., was the first movie in the MCU. As most people probably already know, the movie was a huge critical and financial success, and it started a series that is still going strong today. Today, we live in a world where Invincible Iron Man is no longer caring for Earth’s problems. This is because Tony Stark famously gave his life in Avengers: Endgame’s epic final battle with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Now that Iron Man is gone, Marvel fans have an Iron Man-shaped hole in their hearts. The MCU has set up Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as Tony Stark’s student, but another character recently appeared in Marvel comics and made her live-action debut in one of the year’s biggest movies.
Riri Williams is a child genius who fights crime as Ironheart. Her armor looks a lot like that of everyone’s favorite genius billionaire playboy philanthropist. Even though the character hasn’t been in a comic book in ten years, Ironheart has quickly become a fan favorite, primarily because of how unique she is and how much people like her. Williams’s much-anticipated Disney+ show isn’t coming out yet, but we did get to see her in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. And since new information about her solo adventure keeps coming out, here’s everything we know about Ironheart before this new MCU hero officially takes off alone.

Ironheart Release Date?
As part of Marvel Phase 5, Ironheart will come out on Disney Plus at the end of 2023.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the date was confirmed.
Is There a Trailer for Ironheart?
No, and we probably won’t see any official footage from the show for a long time, since Marvel is currently filming it in Atlanta, Georgia. Due to the lack of footage, hard story details are also hard to find. However, set photos that have made their way online give a pretty good idea of the characters we can expect to see, especially which villain Riri Williams will be going up against. But we have seen Riri in the Wakanda Forever trailers, so here’s one of them:
Marvel’s Ironheart Plot
Riri Williams will make her acting debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the trailer, she can be seen making her suit of armor and acting in scenes with Letitia Wright, who plays Wakanda Princess Shuri. It looks like she is in Wakanda and is in danger from Namor, whom Tenoch Huerta plays.
Most likely, Marvel’s Ironheart will be, first and foremost, a more detailed origin story for Riri Williams. However, it’s possible that the series could connect to Armour Wars, another Iron Man spin-off coming to Disney Plus.
Don Cheadle will again play James Rhodes (known as “War Machine”) on that show. The story will show what happens when Tony Stark’s technology gets into the wrong hands.
Riri Williams could fit right into this story, but Thorne and Cheadle have yet to say if they will work together on both projects.
When Did Riri Williams Make Her MCU Debut?
Dominique Thorne plays Williams. She was in back-to-back hits with If Beale Street Could Talk (2016) and Judas and the Black Messiah (three years later), the latter of which was produced by Ryan Coogler, who also directed Thorne in her first Marvel movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
That’s where we first heard about Ironheart. However, another MCU project had been announced before but wasn’t shown on Marvel’s 2022 San Diego Comic-Con panel. Riri has her armored super suit, so it’s pretty easy to think she could be in the Armor Wars project, which is now being turned into a movie. Don Cheadle is set to return as James Rhodes, aka War Machine, who has an even closer connection to Tony Stark. Again, Armor Wars wasn’t announced as part of Marvel’s Phase 5 schedule, so it may come out in Phase 6 or a little later in Phase 5. Let’s hope that Marvel hasn’t pulled a Batgirl and just canceled it.
What Are the Comic Book Origins of Ironheart?
Even though Riri Williams’s first appearance in a comic book was in the Invincible Iron Man comics, her past has nothing to do with Tony Stark. Riri was raised in Chicago by her mother, sister, and stepfather. At first, she seemed like a normal young woman. Riri’s biological father, also named Riri Williams, died before she was born. However, we find out later that Riri Williams Sr. is still alive and working with the Ten Rings.
Riri didn’t seem to have the social skills important for a young child to do well in life, but she made up for it by being very smart. Even though being an introvert made her life harder, Riri’s intelligence paid off in the end when she was accepted into MIT before she was even a teenager. Even though Riri was smart, tragedy still happened when her stepfather and best friend Natalie was shot and killed in a drive-by.
This terrible event is what made Riri want to become a superhero. Riri’s favorite hero was Iron Man, so she made her own suit and took to the skies to stop evil worldwide. Tony Stark offered to take Williams under his wing and have him help her in a new Civil War conflict with Captain Marvel. This parallels Spider-Man’s role in Captain America: Civil War. As a result of the war, Stark fell into a coma, and Williams took up the Iron Man mantle in his place. She worked with many heroes and became just as well-known as her mentor and father figure.
