Israel: Discuss the construction of a new onshore pipeline with Egypt

Israel’s energy ministry said on Thursday that Israel is considering creating a new onshore pipeline to increase natural gas supplies to Egypt.

According to industry sources, the cost of the new onshore pipeline is expected to reach $ 200 million.

Sources said the pipeline will allow Israel to increase natural gas exports in Egypt between 3-5 billion cubic meters per year.

In January 2020, the oil and energy ministers of Egypt and Israel announced on Wednesday the first pumping of natural gas from Israel to Egypt.

According to previous data, a private company in Egypt, Dolphinus Holdings, is purchasing 85 billion cubic meters of gas, valued at an estimated $ 19.5 billion, from Israel’s offshore Leviathan and Tamar fields over a 15-year period.

The gas is supplied via an undersea pipeline connecting Israel and the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula.

This is when the East Mediterranean Gas Forum was established in 2019 and is based in Cairo and includes Egypt, Cyprus, Israel, Greece, Italy and Jordan as well as Palestine among its members.
