Italian Prime Minister: I have not found an opportunity to pace during my talks with Putin

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said he found no glimpse of pace during his telephone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.

Telephone conversations focused on developments in the situation in Ukraine and efforts to find a common solution to the food crisis in corso and its serious repercussions on the poorest countries in the world, according to the Italian news agency Nova.

Italy’s prime minister said his country is trying to liberalize grain exports from Black Sea ports.

Draghi made these statements during a press conference at the conclusion of the Italian Council of Ministers on Thursday.

Draghi and Putin had telephone talks this morning, during which they focused on the situation in Ukraine and its impact on global food security.

Italian plan

It is interesting to note that last Friday the Italian foreign minister announced that his country had proposed to the United Nations the formation of an “international facilitating group” to try to reach a “step by step” ceasefire on Ukrainian soil.

Although the details of that plan have not yet been published, the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica” revealed that the detailed document delivered to the United Nations and drawn up by the diplomats of the Italian Foreign Ministry involves four phases.

On the other hand, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the plan as a very bad one, and considered in a television interview today that the plan of pace proposed by Italy a few days ago is not “serious”.
