Italy supports its fleet with a multi-purpose warship

Naval News reported that Italy recently launched a new multipurpose warship it has developed for its army.

A post on the website reads: “The Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa recently hosted a launch ceremony for the new PPA (Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura) multi-purpose warship, the fifth of seven. This class was designed to equip the Italian Navy.

According to the site, Italy agreed on a plan to upgrade its Navy ships for 2015, and as part of this plan, work was underway on the construction project of the PPA multi-purpose warships, as well as the first ship of the above category entered service with the Italian army in March of this year, and the second entered service in October last year, as for the third, it was launched in March 2021, and tests began on it, and the fourth ship of this type was launched in February 2022.

The length of each PPA ship is about 143 m, width – 16.5 m, displacement – 6270 tons. These ships can move at a speed of 31 knots, travel 5000 nautical miles in each cargo and carry a crew of 173 people, an additional 30 people.
