Jan Hecker, German Ambassador in China, deceased just a couple of weeks in his post

Hecker had worked as a foreigner policy advisor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel before up his ambassador post in Beijing on August 24.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden death of the German ambassador in China,” said the spokesperson of the German Foreign Ministry said: on Monday. “Our hearts are with to be family and his friends and colleagues currently.”

The circumstances surrounding the diplomats death have not been disclosed.

hecker took up to be post as the 14th German Ambassador in China in end of August. Prior to his appointment, he was director of the Department of Foreign Policy, Security and Development Policy and had Merkel been foreign policy advisor since 2017, the embassy in Beijing said: on to be official Weibo account.

“I am deeply shocked by the… death of Jan Hecker,” Merkel said. in a written statement on Monday. “I mourn the loss” of a highly valued advisor of many years, with deep humanity and excellent expertise. I think of our collaboration with gratitude and glad to have been so closely involved with it over the years. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, children and other family members in their immeasurable sorrow.”

When starting the role, Hecker said his goals for the new mission were “to contribute to the long-term and stable development of Germany-China relations via our workand to “further strengthen” dialogue and partnership,” the embassy said.
