Japan Rally canceled due to Corona

The Japan Rally, which was supposed to be the final leg of the World Rally Championship November 11-14, was canceled due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, organizers announced Tuesday.

The executive committee responsible for organizing the event said in a note that “given the characteristics of the competition that takes place on public roads with the inevitable collaboration of all members of the local community, the fact that emergency cases of COVID-19 in Japan are increasing by day in day and the improvement in the situation is still unexpected, we did not have Unfortunately the only option is to cancel the Japan Rally 2021 “.

The organizers of the World Rally Championship stated on their official website that a round alternative.

This is the second consecutive year that organizers have had to cancel the Rally of Japan, which was supposed to return to the racing calendar last year for the first time since 2010.

After eight races, the French Sebastien Ogier (Toyota) leads the drivers’ standings with 162 points, 38 points ahead of Welsh teammate Elvin Evans and Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai).

In the constructors’ classification, Toyota leads with 348 points, ahead of Hyundai (307) and M-Sport Ford (135).

The next appointment, the famous Acropolis Rally, will take place in Greece from 9 to 12 September, followed by two more races in calendar in Finland (1 to 3 October) e in Spain (from 14 to 17 of the same month).
