#Roommates, from the second it was announced that Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson would play Aretha Franklin in a biopic – we knew she would kill him. Now the first sequence of the upcoming film has been released and that’s it and more.
Before her untimely death in August 2018, legendary Queen of the Soul, Aretha Franklin, selected Jennifer Hudson to star in the film about her life – and based on the just released teaser clip, J Hud gives all she has.
The clip opens with Jennifer singing an a capella version of Franklin’s hit, Respect. She is dressed in a sparkling golden dress with a short wig inspired by the 1960s, while the word “RESPECT” lights up in the background.
The film has been shot in the past few months and has a star cast that includes Forest Whitaker, Mary J. Blige, Marlon Wayans, Tituss Burgess, Audra McDonald and Heather Headley. “RESPECT” will tell the story of Aretha from her beginnings in her father’s church, to her first abusive marriage and finally to her rise as the most emblematic and respected woman in the history of music.
The project is still being filmed, with early filming in New York and Atlanta. It also received an award season slot next year, when it is slated to hit theaters in late October.
During her recent appearance on the Kelly Clarkson talk show, Jennifer said about her choice by Aretha herself for the role:
“He is an emblematic figure that we all love, respect and admire. She called me and said, “I made my decision and I want to play with you. But don’t tell anyone ”…“ Madam, I won’t say anything. I will do whatever you tell me to do. »»
We can’t wait to see it!
