In his speech in opening of the “Green Middle East” conference in Riyadh, the prince announced “the establishment of an investment fund in solutions for circular carbon economy technologies in the region and a global initiative to help provide clean fuel solutions, with a total investment of 39 billion riyals ($ 10.4 billion). “About 15% of them”, or about 1.56 billion dollars.

The Saudi Crown Prince said: “Today we usher in a new green era for the region that we will lead and reap our rewards together, in our belief that the effects of climate change are not limited to the environment, but rather to the economy and security. “

“We are aware that climate change is an economic opportunity for individuals and the private sector, which will stimulate the Green Middle East initiative to create quality jobs and promote innovation in the region,” he added.

The conference was attended by the Emir of Qatar, the Crown Prince of Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, as well as the American climate envoy John Kerry.

On Saturday, energy giant Saudi Aramco announced plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

And last March, Saudi Arabia launched a broad package of initiatives to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions, including a plan to plant around 10 billion trees over the next few decades.

On Saturday, the crown prince announced the start of the first phase of the reforestation initiative by planting over 450 million trees in all of Saudi Arabia.
