Johnny Galecki finds his Christmas vacation cast for a special projection in the middle of the news, he produces a spin-off

Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki reunited with his Christmas co-stars in Beverly Hills on Thursday evening for a special screening of the 30th anniversary of the classic film National Lampoon. The event took place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater while Galecki was producing a HBO Max spin-off titled The Griswolds.

Galecki – who played Rusty Griswold in the 1989 film – posed for photos with Chevy Chase (Clark Griswold), Beverly D’Angelo (Ellen Griswold), Juliette Lewis (Audrey Griswold) and Dianne Ladd (Nora Griswold).

Chase and D’Angelo were staples of the National Lampoon Vacation franchise, appearing in the original in 1983, followed by European Vacation in 1985, Christmas Vacation in 1989 and Vegas Vacation in 1997. However, the roles of Rusty and Audrey were played by different actors in each film.

The Vacation franchise was based on news from John Hughes Vacation ’58 originally published by National Lampoon magazine. According to the Daily Mail, the four films in the series grossed $ 182 million at the box office and have since become cult favorites.

In 2015, Warner Bros. attempted to restart the franchise by reinventing the original with Ed Helms and Christina Applegate. Even though it has received mixed reviews from critics and fans, it still managed to bring in over $ 100 million at the box office.

From now on, Galecki will be the executive producer of The Griswolds, a half-hour single-camera sitcom that follows the titular family who lives daily in the suburbs of Chicago. They have yet to announce the cast for the new series, and it’s unclear whether any of the actors in the original film series will be part of the project. But, it has been revealed that Tim Hobert – shows like Community, Scrubs and The Middle – will be writing the scripts.

In addition to The Griswolds, HBO Max would be involved in numerous reboots and spinoffs, including an animated series Gremlins, a reboot of Gossip Girl and a prequel to Practical Magic. The streaming service – which will be launched in May 2020 – will also be the new home of sitcom favorites Friends, The Office, Parks and Recreation, The Big Bang Theory and The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
