Jordan: 10 dead and 251 wounded in a gas leak incident in the port of Aqaba

A Jordanian government spokesman announced in Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath that the death toll from the accident and explosion of a poisonous gas tank in Aqaba had risen to 10 and injured 251.

The Jordanian minister of state for the affairs of the media, Faisal Al-Shboul, revealed that the government has sent medical reinforcements to Aqaba. Al-Shboul said the government will strengthen the medical team in Aqaba to control the toxic gas leak incident.

Jordanian authorities declared a state of emergency on Monday after a gas leak in the port of Aqaba.

A spokesperson for the public security directorate, Amer Al-Sartawi, said some injured were brought in hospital after a toxic gas escaped from a tank after the fall.

Al-Sartawi explained that during daily work at the port of Aqaba, an accident occurred when a tanker filled with a toxic gaseous substance fell during transport, causing a gas leak at the site.

He stressed that the area has been isolated and specialists have begun to deal with the accident, while the Civil Protection has transferred the injured in hospital for treatment.
