Jordan: agreement with Egypt to increase electricity connection to 1,000 megawatts

On Sunday, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, said Jordan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen the joint electricity interconnection line and increase its capacity to 1,000 megawatts.

He added, in statements after his meeting in Amman, with the Egyptian minister of electricity, Mohamed Shaker, that “an agreement has been reached on the exchange of electricity between the two countries in different periods and on a daily basis. Which benefits both parties“.

Regarding the electricity connection with Iraq, Kharabsheh said: “The infrastructure with the Iraqi side will be ready soon, in preparation of the start of the electricity exchange with Jordan and Egypt “, foreseeing” to postpone the offers with the Iraqi side on the electricity connection within 60 days “.

It is interesting to note that the electricity connection between Jordan and Egypt started in 1999 and there is an exchange of electricity with capacities up to 500 megawatts and the new agreement could increase this capacity to 1000 or 2000 megawatts. in future.
