Juventus managed to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive with a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan on Sunday. Philip Kostic was the hero on the day, scoring for Juventus midway through the first half. The win takes Juventus to 41 points from 27 games, six points behind Milan who are currently fourth in the standings. Inter finished third with 50 points, 21 points behind league leaders Napoli and two points behind Lazio, who moved into second place with a 1-0 win over Roma in the Italian capital.
Despite Inter controlling the start of the match, Wojciech Szczesny, the Juventus goalkeeper, managed to save two chances from Niccolo Barella. However, Juventus managed to take the lead thanks to Kostic’s low shot following a pass from Adrien Rabiot on 23 minutes. Although there were suggestions that the goal may have been a handball by Rabiot, the referee eventually awarded the goal after a long VAR review.
After the break, Inter’s Matteo Darmian prevented Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic from scoring an equaliser. The result marks Inter’s third defeat in their last four league games, highlighting a lack of offensive effectiveness.
Overall, the win gives Juventus a slight boost in their quest to qualify for the Champions League, although they remain behind Milan with only a handful of games left in the season.
