Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko said that the formation of a military alliance within the framework of the Organization of Turkish States is not in discussion within the organization and does not serve the interests of either Kazakhstan or other TTO member states.
The Kazakh diplomat’s speech has arrived in answer to a question from Al-Arabiya.net on the possibility of a military alliance between the Turkish countries, especially after the rapid leaps in the organization’s work in recent years.
It is not absent from the discussion, from time to time in time, media and politics about the possibility of the emergence of a military alliance within the framework of this organization, especially during the Second Karabakh War between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the late 2020s, when Turkey’s military support played an important role in the victory of Azerbaijan at the end of last year.
Vasilenko added that the Organization of Turkish States has developed strongly in recent years and, as far as Kazakhstan is concerned, our interests lie in the development of cooperation in the field of economy and culture.
At the initiative of Kazakhstan, in a summit held in Nakhchivan, in Azerbaijan in 2009, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed the “Nakhchivan Agreement”, according to which the Turkish Council was established.
In 2018 Hungary became an observer in within the Council, while in 2021 Turkmenistan obtained observer status and Turkish Cyprus questIt became an observer during the Samarkand summit this year, while Uzbekistan gained its full membership in 2019.
During the 8th “Turkish Council” summit in Istanbul in 2021, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the conversion of the name “Turkish Council” in “Organization of Turkish States”.
Today, the organization includes Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as Hungary as an observer country with Turkmenistan and Turkish Cyprus, with a population of about 170 million people and the gross domestic product of these countries is 1.5 trillion dollars.
