This news is most excellent. It’s been thirty years since Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter played the roles of Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq. in surprise, 1989 hit the great adventure of Bill & Ted and the follow-up Bogus Journey of Bill & Ted in 1991. Now the two actors have come together for the third film in the Bill & Ted Face The Music franchise, and the first images have been released from the long-awaited sequel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, it was their special Bill & Ted meeting almost two years ago with Reeves, Winter and writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon that proved fans were hungry for a third film.
Solomon told the publication that the response to this meeting was “astounding, even for the biggest cynics,” and it was great news for them when they discussed their ideas for a third film. The latest film shows that Bill and Ted are still trying to find the music for their group Wyld Stallions that will save the world, and they suddenly discover that they are running out of time.
“When they were teenagers, they were told they were going to save reality, and they worked on it all the time,” says Matheson. “Now an emissary from the future comes and says,” You have to do it now. We literally have 80 minutes or all of reality will end. “
Fortunately, the duo have help in this film from an unexpected place: their daughters. Samara Weaving plays Bill’s daughter, Thea, and Ted’s daughter, Billie, is performed by Brigette Lundy-Paine. Matheson says girls “really like their father’s music,” and that’s why they want to help.
Other cast members include Beck Bennet of Saturday Night Live as Ted Deacon’s younger brother, and musician / actor Kid Cudi plays himself. Director Dean Parisot says Kid Cudi is “mysteriously thrown through different eras because all time and space take off.”
It’s no secret that Reeves has had an extremely successful acting career since the last time he played Ted. But fans may not know that Winter has had a successful career as a documentary filmmaker. Even if he hasn’t played for a while, Winter isn’t worried.
“If I started doing things to King Lear again, then I would have wet my diapers,” he says. “But I know this guy pretty well.”
Bill & Ted Face The Music will hit theaters across the country on August 21, 2020.
