Torture cases in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson reached “terrifying” numbers under Russian forces’ control, according to a senior Ukrainian human rights official on Thursday.
“I have yet to see torture of this magnitude after visiting all the torture chambers in different regions of Ukraine,” Dmytro Lubinets, head of human rights of Ukraine, told national television, adding that “the scale of the phenomenon is terrifying. “
He explained that dozens of people were “electrocuted and beaten with metal pipes, and their bones were broken”, noting that “the Russians filmed everything”.
He continued: “I’m sure we’ll find out in every major city one camera of torture, because it is a method established by Russia”.
And the Ukrainian authorities have announced the discovery of several torture chambers in cities belonging to the Kherson region, recently recovered from the Russians after months.
A resident of the city of Kherson said he was detained for several weeks in this city during its occupation. He said he was tied up, beaten and electrocuted by Russian officials and other pro-Russian officials during his arrest.
