Kiev is investigating a video released by Moscow of the execution of captured Russian soldiers

Ukraine’s military said on Saturday it was verifying videos that Moscow says show Kiev executed several Russian soldiers after they surrendered.

The videos circulated on social media Russians this week show the bodies of Russian soldiers killed after they surrendered to Ukrainian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that the videos show the “deliberate and systematic killing of more than 10 handcuffed Russian servicemen”.

For his part, a spokesman for the Ukrainian General Staff, Bogdan Senek, told “Agence France Presse” today: “We are currently investigating whether these clips are false”.

He added that the videos were “handed over to specialists”, noting that the publication of fake videos “has finally escalated”.

Russia said on Friday the videos constituted a “war crime”, the latest allegations of abuse by Kiev after months of fighting.

One of the clips shows soldiers appearing to surrender to several soldiers in camouflage clothes and wear yellow armbands.

Then the surrendering soldiers appear, lying on the ground in the deserted garden of a house, and the video suddenly cuts to the sound of gunfire.

Another video shows the bodies of a dozen people surrounded by what appear to be bloodstains. The Russian Defense Ministry did not mention the date in which these clips were shot.

For his part, a UN spokesman told AFP: “We are aware of the existence of these videos and are investigating them,” demanding that the perpetrators be held accountable.

Meanwhile, the Russian Investigative Committee charged with investigating serious crimes said it had launched a criminal investigation into the “execution of captured Russian soldiers”.
