Kingdom Provides Significant Contributions to Earthquake Relief Funding in Turkey, says OCHA.

United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs ‘OCHA’ Thanked Donors for Contributing $268 Million in response to US$1 billion humanitarian funding appeal in Turkey following the earthquake. The spokesman, Jens Laerke, confirmed that the appeal was 27% funded, and that the largest donors were the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, Kuwait, the European Commission and the United Nations Emergency Fund, urging countries to provide support and help finance the appeal.

He explained that the aid comes in support of the Turkish government-led response, noting that nine million people were directly affected by the earthquake that occurred two months ago, while three million people were displaced.

He said: “United Nations humanitarian agencies have reached more than 4.1 million people with non-food assistance and with emergency food assistance to 3 million people, while more than 700,000 people have received support to improve their housing, including tents, rescue accommodation units and repair tools.” Tents, 1.6 million people received assistance in the field of water, sanitation and approximately one million liters of drinking water were delivered.

Stressed that the Ministry of Health in Turkey was supported with 4.6 million doses of vaccine, 16 mobile health clinics, as well as medicines and medical supplies for reproductive health and trauma and injury treatment.
