Korean Patent Experts Sent to UAE Ministry of Economy

The Korean Intellectual Property Office said on Wednesday that five patent experts were sent to the UAE Ministry of Economy to examine submitted patent applications.

Cooperation between Korea and UAE

The Korean Intellectual Property Office signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE for comprehensive cooperation in the field of intellectual property in 2010, and a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of patent examination in 2014. So far, 14 experts have been sent to the UAE to conduct examinations of patent applications submitted in the UAE.

Successful Collaborative Projects

The Korean office successfully completed the collaborative project to establish a patent information system in the UAE in 2018. It is scheduled that the Korean office will be assigned to implement the education and training processes for new examiners who will be employed by the UAE Ministry of Economy this year, and its memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed during the first half of this year, and its implementation will begin.

Expansion of Cooperation

The Korean office is conducting consultations with Qatar to implement a cooperative project related to developing a national strategy for intellectual property, and plans to seek to sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in examining patents with Bahrain. The office said that it seeks to spread the advanced Korean intellectual property system in the Middle East region by expanding cooperation with other countries in this region.
