Larian Studios CEO Swen Vinke Announces Departure from Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons & Dragons Universe
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vinke has announced that the company is shifting focus away from Baldur’s Gate and the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Speaking at GDC, Vinke mentioned that there are no plans for DLC, expansions, or a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3, last year’s hit game.
Instead, the Belgian indie developer behind the Divinity RPG series is looking to explore new ideas. Vinke stated, “We are a company with big ambitions and we are not interested in creating DLCs or expansions. Life is too short for that. We have a lot of new ideas that we want to work on.”
While Baldur’s Gate will always hold a special place in their hearts, Larian Studios will not be continuing in that universe. They have decided to move on and start working on something completely new.
Recently, Larian Studios received four awards at the GDC Awards, including Game of the Year for Baldur’s Gate 3. The physical Deluxe Edition for PC has been released, but the console versions have been delayed due to production issues. The studio is excited about the future and the new projects they have in store.
