Leipzig and Manchester City faced off in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday, ending in a 1-1 draw. Manchester City had the majority of possession in the beginning of the match, with Robin Dias coming close to scoring in the 13th minute with a header that went into the arms of Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blasevich. The English side finally broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Algerian star Riyad Mahrez scored from close range following a mistake by the Leipzig defenders. Manchester City had a few more chances to extend their lead, but Leipzig equalised in the 70th minute through Croatian Josko Gvardiol, who headed in a cross from Marcel Halstenberg. Both sides continued to attack, but they were unable to find the winner, and the result of the first leg means that qualification for the quarter-finals will be decided in the second leg, which will be held at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on March 14th.
