Liverpool meet Manchester City in the EFL Cup

London: The draw for the fourth round (round of 16) of the English Football League Cup, which retired late yesterday, Thursday night, brought the champion in Liverpool’s charge against Manchester City, English Premier League champions. Round four matches will take place the week following the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar from November 20 to December 18. Liverpool qualified for the fourth round with a tough win against third-tier side Derby County, where they beat them 3/2 on penalties after the third round match ended in a goal draw inviolate. As for Manchester City, they qualified at Chelsea’s expense in second place in League Cup last season, beating him 2-0 on Wednesday. Liverpool and Manchester City met on 30 July in the FA Shield Cup match and the clash ended with Liverpool winning 3/1. Manchester United qualified for the League Cup round of 16 by beating Aston Villa 4/2 yesterday, Thursday, and will play their fourth round match in home against Burnley, the English Premier League leaders. Gillingham’s second division side blew up a surprise by beating Brentford, beating them 6-5 on penalties, after the game ended in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, and will meet Wolverhampton in the fourth round. As for Blackburn, who qualified at West Ham’s expense, they will face Nottingham Forest, who knocked Tottenham out of the tournament. Brighton, who beat Arsenal 3/1, will meet Charlton, while Southampton will meet Premier League side Lincoln. Fourth round matches will also see Newcastle meet Bournemouth and Leicester City with Milton Keynes Dons. (Dpa)
