Liverpool reveal changes to their management structure

LONDON: Liverpool Football Club announced today, Wednesday, that they have made some changes to the management structure of the club, while it is rumored that Michael Edwards will step down from his position as sporting director of the club at the end of the season in course. The club English stated on its official website, which Edwards, 42, made clear to club his willingness to seek a new challenge with the end of his contract, which allows for some administrative changes in orderly way. Liverpool have confirmed that Julian Ward, who currently works as assistant sporting director, will be promoted to take over as sporting director to succeed Edwards after his departure. 40-year-old Ward was the manager of the loan of club. Despite this, the British News Agency (PA Media) said Edwards’ departure does not mean that he will join Newcastle with the new Saudi administration, which is looking for new senior executives. For his part, Edwards wrote a message to the Liverpool fans, in to whom he said: “I have always thought I would spend a maximum of ten years in my career, I loved working here, but I strongly believe in change”. He added: “I think it will be beneficial to the individual, the work environment and employers as well.” Fenway, the sports club that owns Liverpool, had made several attempts to persuade Edwards to stay and renew his contract. Liverpool are fourth in the English Premier League standings with 22 points, four points behind leaders Chelsea and one point behind Manchester City and West Ham respectively. (Dpa)
