London diplomatically considers boycott of the Beijing Olympics

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics next year to protest China’s human rights, the Times reported Saturday.

The newspaper claimed it was in there was an “active discussion” in the government and that Secretary of State Liz Truss allegedly supported a boycott.

The Times added that under one option, British ministers would not attend the Games, but the country’s ambassador in China would have done it.

The report said five Conservative politicians wrote to Johnson urging him to ban any official British diplomatic representation at the February Winter Olympics.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden confirmed that the US is considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics.
