Lube Man identity may be a guardian character we’ve already met

Watchmen is full of bizarre pictures and unanswered questions. A character combines the two: Lube Man. Who is Lube Man? You know, Lube Man, the big guy who slipped down a storm drain to escape Sister Night. Everyone’s favorite character . Lube Man.

Fortunately for the Lube fans, the entries in Peteypedia this week cast an important light on the subject.

According to the latest Canon update on HBO’s Peteypedia site, Abar told her colleague, following Lube Man down the road, the weird episode. Red Mask called the mysterious masked vigilante a “Lube Man,” and so a hero (?) Was born. But here is the twist.

(Ed. Note: This post features spoilers for the first eight episodes of Watchmen season 1 and possible spoilers for the season finale.)

At the time, there was not much evidence of the true identity of Lube Man, but in another entry in Peteypedia this week, which focuses exclusively on the book Fogdancing, Petey gives us background information on the inspiration of the costume. It turned out that silver jumpsuits were the uniform of the Fogdancers, a group of US Black Ops special forces who cleaned up the various war crimes of Vietnam in the book, and in addition to masks such as Dr. Keith. Manhattan and The Comedian worked. These suits even contained a special liquid compound called SPF-666 in which the foggy dancers wrapped their suits to prevent it from burning.

Adrien Veidt reads episode 8 in his cell during the epilogue, which, according to Petey, was popular with many costumed adventurers. And if costumed adventurers liked it, Petey was obviously completely obsessed.

The Peteypedia entry also contains a storyline of the notoriously complicated book that a juvenile Petey has submitted to a nudity-oriented magazine called Nothing Ever Ends. In the magazine, Petey’s summary was ranked as the last of 50 published entries. Petey calls this moment of public humiliation his original story in the other post this week. With his mention of an origin story, his obsession with the book, and his detailed notes on the costume, it certainly seems like Lube Man himself is Petey.

Has Petey made his obsession with costumed adventurers the next by becoming one? Being a giant nerd and basing his alter ego on a notoriously complicated book about the people working with the true heroes would make sense. Even the costume designer of Watchmen, Meghan Kasterlik, suggests that he could do it. As she said polygon, the costume is just a custom made latex suit with a belt – you know to hold the lubricant. Such a simple look is something that anyone could cobble together. Even Petey.

Based on the Peteypedia entry, we do not seem to have been the only ones making this connection. The reason why Petey is reminded of his own story with fogging is that he finds a copy of the book in the Wade Tillman bunker – also known as Looking Glass – along with a copy of the Nothing Ever Ends edition in the Petey himself Petey even remarks that this is a strange coincidence, but maybe it’s more than that. Maybe Detective Tillman has done his own research on Petey and drawn the same connections we made about the true identity of Lube Man.
