BANGKOK: French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that ‘sport should not be politicised’ in one moment in which the controversy over the organization of the World Cup by Qatar continues, just days before its start. “I think sport shouldn’t be politicized,” said Macron, who is defending his country’s world title in Russia in 2018, speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Bangkok to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. “These issues need to be addressed when awarding the right to host the event,” she added. Macron, who in he had previously announced that he was going in Qatar if France reached the semifinals, he said “politicising sport is a very bad idea”, recalling that his country will host the Olympic Games in 2024.
