BRUSSELS: French President Emmanuel Macron defended his decision on Thursday to visit Qatar to support the French national team during the World Cup, despite allegations linking the Gulf state to corruption in the European Parliament. Macron visited Qatar on Wednesday evening to watch the France-Morocco semi-final, which the French won, and will return to Doha on Sunday to watch the final against Argentina. Macron, who then traveled to Brussels to attend the European Union summit, said: “I fully take” responsibility for the visit in Qatar. He added: “Four years ago, I supported the French national team in Russia and I support it in Qatar”. (AFP)
