It was confirmed on Wednesday that Madonna’s protege, Nick Kamen, had died aged 59. The star was best known for his 1986 hit, Each Time You Break My Heart, written by Madonna, as well as starring in a Levi’s 501 advert.

The late star died at his Notting Hill home, after suffering from bone cancer for three years, his brother confirmed.
At the time, Nick, whose birth name was Ivor Neville Kamen, was being cared for by his partner of 15 years, Lucinda Carey.
His brother Ronald went on to reveal that as Nick’s life came to an end, his breathing became “very shallow” and he knew that his death was approaching.
“He did fight it very hard,” he said.

In a new interview, Lucinda has revealed that despite his pain, Nick was fortunate enough to have a “beautiful” death.
She said: “It was beautiful and incredibly gentle.”
Lucinda, 46, who is the daughter of the Viscount of Falkland, went on to say that both she and her 23-year-old daughter, shared Nick’s final moments with him by his side.
“Nick was an incredible person, and it was really inspiring to be around him during his illness,” she added.

Speaking to the Mail Online, the filmmaker went on to add: “There has been a lot of joy and hardship over the past three years and he could not have lived with more respect and dignity.”
Carey said that Nick, who knew for three years that his death was approaching, “loved” the medical staff who treated him at Hammersmith Hospital, west London.
“He appreciated everything that the NHS did for him and so do the rest of us,” she told the publication.
Speaking of his prognosis, Lucinda admitted: “He’s known for the past three years that he was going to die but he never felt sorry for himself and lived his life with incredible charm and courage.”

She said that Nick was “accepting of his situation” and during the course of his fight, he never became stressed.
Recalling the height of Nick’s fame, Lucinda admitted that he “never liked” the attention being in the public eye brought him and claims that he was at his “unhappiest” when he was famous.
“That’s why Nick stepped out of public life because he didn’t like being famous.
“He was happy living a private life and didn’t like being the centre of attention,” she revealed.
Nick’s family had nicknamed him “Lazarus” after escaping death on many occasions.
His sister, Denise, said: “He never gave up and put up such a good fight, he would always fight back and would not give up.
“He came back so often we would call him Lazarus after the biblical character, he really did fight so hard.”
Meanwhile, close friend Madonna said it was “heartbreaking” that Nick had passed away, describing him as a “kind, sweet human” adding that he “suffered too much”.
