Mahrez, captain of the Algerian national team, unravels the penalty shoot-out

Algeria: Riyad Mahrez, captain of the Algerian national soccer team, untangled the penalty-kick knot that had hit him with his English side, Manchester City, in recent weeks on Wednesday evening. Mahrez scored his country’s progressive goal in the third minute of reckoned time, instead of missing out for the first half of a friendly that brought together his country’s national team and their host Mali in the Algerian city of Oran . Mahrez hit the ball hard to the left of the Mali goalkeeper, in network, not noticing any reaction from the “Khidr” star, unlike his colleagues in bench who were happy for him. While his coach, Djamel Belmadi, preferred not to watch the clip, as it seemed he too was under pressure. Mahrez failed to score consecutive penalties for Manchester City in the Champions League group stage, the first against Copenhagen, in Denmark, and the second against Borussia Dortmund. (dpa)
