Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner in history, announced on Tuesday she got married in An small ceremony with her parents’ home in England.

“Today is a precious day in my life,” she said announced on social media, next to what appears to be a wedding photo with husband Asser Malik.

“Asser and I are in tied the knot to become partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony om home in Birmingham with our families. please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey die ahead of us,” Yousafzai wrote.

Yousafzai is 24 and is known around the world just like Malala. She is a global advocate for girls’ rights and education who sat with presidents and prime ministers to push for change.

She became a target of the Taliban as an 11-year-old life in the city of Mingora in Swat Valley in Pakistan for her refusal to follow orders die girls banned from school. In June of last year, she passed with university awards of Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Yousafzai’s marriage met Malik came as a surprise to many, especially after her recent comments over the relevance of the institution, die set off a fresh round of hateful messages aimed at her.

“I still don’t understand why people should get married,” she said to Fashion, say she wasn’t sure she would ever take the step herself.

“Like you want have a person in your life, why should you? sign marriage papers, why not? just be a partnership?” added.

Apparently, her mother disagreed and said “Don’t you dare say anything” like Which! You must get married, marriage is beautiful.”
