Man sentenced to 8 years in prison for fatally beating a man who tried to enter his daughter’s bathroom

# Roommates, most of us would go above and beyond to protect our loved ones without even thinking about the possibility of legal consequences. This is probably what a father thought when he fatally struck a man who tried to enter his daughter’s public restroom. Now this father has just been sentenced to 8 years in prison.

In August 2018, Melvin Harris III of Phoenix, Arizona was horrified when he learned that Leon Armstrong had tried to sneak into the public restroom where Harris’ daughter was. A fight between the two ensued – and Armstrong was finally killed. Now @People reports that Harris was officially sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

This is how the fight started initially. Harris was waiting in the parking lot of a local gas station for his daughter and friends, when Armstrong approached him and asked for money. Harris gave him money and Armstrong went back inside the gas station. As Harris’ daughter returned to the car, she told her father that Armstrong had tried to enter the women’s enclosed toilet while she was inside.

As security escorted Armstrong out of the store, Harris’ daughter pointed to him. Harris then “told the security guard that he should take care of the situation, or [Harris] would do it himself.” Harris punched him in the face, tossing him to the ground. He told police that he had hit Armstrong only once, but police documents indicate that he had continued to hit and kick Armstrong before leaving the scene.

After the fatal encounter, Armstrong was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of a fatal brain injury a few days later.
