Martin Boyle leaves the Australian national team before the start of the World Cup due to injury

LONDON: Hibernian full-back Martin Boyle will miss the World Cup in Australia due to a knee injury. British news agency BA Media reported that Boyle missed his side’s last three matches before the World Cup break because of the issue, but hoped he would be available to play in Qatar. The Australian national team confirmed on Sunday that they had been dropped from the national squad. Melbourne City full-back Marco Tellio was brought in to replace Boyle in view of the World Cup debut in Australia versus France on Tuesday. “We all feel for Martin, it’s a huge blow for him before the tournament starts,” Graham Arnold, head coach of the Australia national football team, told the Australian Football Association’s official website. He added: “He was an integral part of our journey to reach Qatar and we thank him for everything he has given to the Australian national team during this campaign.” We also thank his club, who did everything possible to help. He will be back, we can’t wait to see him in the national team shirt next year.” (dpa)
