Martin Roberts rages at 'obscene' vet bills after beloved dog Rolo is admitted again

Martin Roberts, 57, gave fans little insight into his “very, very, very toned down” reaction to the vet bill he will receive after the family’s beloved pooch Rolo fell ill. The 4-year-old Labradoodle has been in and out of the veterinary surgery with “stomach problems”, and was re-admitted on Tuesday afternoon after Martin put out a desperate plea for help.

Taking to Twitter earlier on on Tuesday, the Homes Under The Hammer star begged fans for suggestions on how to get his pooch to eat, after he returned home form the vets with no appetite.

“Can you offer any advice for my poorly dog?” he asked alongside a video, where he revealed he’s given him everything he usually loves and he wasn’t at all interested, which was a growing concern for Martin.

Fans rushed to the comments section to share some potential solutions, with some ideas including changing his bowl to a different colour, feeding him a plain McDonald’s cheeseburger and boiled plain rice with bovril.

The presenter came back on Twitter later yesterday evening to give a vital update on Rolo’s health, and to say he tried some of their suggestions but nothing had worked.

“I just wanted to say thank you to everybody for all your kind words and suggestions about Rolo, it means a lot” he said.

“I’ve tried everything and he’s just not having it. He’s gone back to the vets who have access to some special treatments.”

And while Martin, like every pet owner, will do everything he can to ensure Rolo recieves the best treatment, he wasn’t half disgusted with the cost of it all.

“It’s a bit of a scandal though, because when they tell you how much it is going to cost and then they give you an idea… you don’t want to know honesty!” he shook his head.

“It is an absolute outrage.

“I think there is an investigation that needs to be done about vets costs because it’s obscene. It will stop you doing the best for you pet!”

“It’s terrible, it’s terrible.”

After a slight pause, Martin added: “I thought vets were there to save lives, not save them if you can pay.

“That suck’s doesn’t it?

“Anyway, they’re my personal very, very, very toned down feelings. In the mean time, Rolo is there and he’ll have whatever he needs and we’ll just see.”

It seems his feelings very much hit home to some of his followers, who rushed to the comments section to share their own expensive experiences with the vets.

“Couldn’t agree more. If you have to get lots of drugs prescribed, get a repeat prescription from the vet and buy online. So much cheaper,” one pointed out.

Another sent their love: “Thinking of you all and yes you are so right with your rant. Rolo is whats most important now and is the focus. Hugs to you all.”

On Monday, Martin revealed he was “worried sick” about Rolo, when he was in overnight on Sunday.

But whatever the outcome, he promised to keep fans updated on his condition.

Homes Under The Hammer airs weekdays at 10am one BBC One.
