In 2023, Marvel is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the debut of the X-Men, a beloved superhero team. To honor this milestone, Marvel is bringing back the original five X-Men from their 1963 debut in X-Men #1. The team includes Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel, and Beast. However, this time, the heroes are being pulled through time to save the Multiverse.

The Return of the Original Five X-Men

Marvel has announced an oversized one-shot comic written by Christos Gage, the former writer of X-Men Legacy, and illustrated by Greg Land, the former artist of Uncanny X-Men. The cover is designed by Ryan Stegman, the former Wolverine artist. This special comic will set up major storylines to come in the X-Men universe.

However, there’s a catch. By the end of this story, one of the five X-Men won’t be able to make it back to their own time. The comic will explore what this missing hero will do while trapped in the future.

Didn’t the Original Five X-Men Already Time Travel?

Some fans may recall that the original five X-Men already traveled to the future in Brian Michael Bendis’ All-New X-Men series from 2013. In that storyline, the adult Beast brought the young X-Men forward in time to use them against the rogue adult Cyclops. However, their memories were later wiped, and they were sent back to their original time before the events of Jonathan Hickman’s X-Men revamp.

Now, the Phoenix Force is pulling the original five X-Men back to the future, restoring their memories of their previous trip. This upcoming comic will continue the storylines from All-New X-Men and X-Men: Blue.

What to Expect from the Comic

The Phoenix Force has chosen the original five X-Men to embark on a crucial mission throughout the Multiverse. The younger versions of the heroes must confront their older selves and either convince them to change their ways or find a way to defeat them. This conflict explores the clash between the idealistic younger self and the jaded older self who has made sacrifices to survive.

The Release Date

The Original X-Men #1 is set to be released on December 20, so mark your calendars and get ready for an exciting adventure with the classic X-Men team.
