Marvel Entertainment Announces New Series of What If…? Books with Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch as Siblings

Marvel Entertainment Announces New Series of Books Based on “What If…?” Scenarios

Marvel Entertainment has exciting news for fans of their superheroes. They’re collaborating with licensed book publisher Random House Worlds to release a new series of books that reimagines the origins of iconic Marvel heroes in adult novels. These books will explore intriguing What If…? scenarios, such as Spider-Man having a sister.

The first book in this series, “WHAT IF…LOKI WAS WORTHY? A LOKI AND VALKYRIE STORY” by Madeleine Roux, is set to hit bookshelves on March 12, 2024. Mike Chen’s “WHAT IF…MARC SPECTOR WAS A HOST TO VENOM? A MOON KNIGHT AND VENOM STORY” will follow in October 2024. The most surprising announcement is “WHAT IF…WANDA MAXIMOFF AND PETER PARKER WERE SIBLINGS? A SCARLET WITCH AND SPIDER-MAN STORY” by Seanan McGuire, which is scheduled for release in July 2024.

Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man has faced criticism for its handling of Kamala Khan. Meanwhile, Scarlet Witch is set to have a romantic storyline with the God of Mischief, Loki. Unfortunately, the next season of Marvel Studios’ What If…? has been delayed until the first quarter of 2024, so fans of the animated show may have to wait a bit longer for new content.

Spider-Man Siblings with Scarlet Witch in New Origin Story

We are thrilled to announce that Random House Worlds, in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, will be releasing three new adult novels that will take readers on an exciting journey through the “What If…?” universe. These imaginative stories will give fans a fresh perspective on the origins of their favorite Marvel superheroes.

We are particularly excited about the upcoming release of “WHAT IF…WANDA MAXIMOFF AND PETER PARKER WERE SIBLINGS? A SCARLET WITCH AND SPIDER-MAN STORY” by Seanan McGuire. This book promises to be a sensational addition to the Marvel canon, and we can’t wait to share it with readers in July 2024. Although we can’t reveal too much at this point, we can tell you that both heroes will retain their superpowers and aliases, which is sure to delight fans.

We are also eagerly anticipating the release of “WHAT IF…MARC SPECTOR WAS A HOST TO VENOM? A MOON KNIGHT AND VENOM STORY” by Mike Chen, scheduled for release in October 2024. This concept was almost brought to life in the 2008 video game, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, and we are thrilled to see it come to fruition in this exciting new book.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the release of the first book in this series, “WHAT IF…LOKI WAS WORTHY? A LOKI AND VALKYRIE STORY” by Madeleine Roux, on March 12, 2024. We are confident that this book will be a hit with fans, and we can’t wait for readers to dive into this thrilling new world of Marvel stories.

But Why Peter and Wanda?

The other two stories in What If…? featuring Loki and Moon Knight are seamlessly integrated with their respective characters. The notion of Loki being deemed worthy, akin to his brother, is a common theme found in the comics. Likewise, the Symbiote bonding with Marc Spector is plausible, considering his history of hearing voices in his head.

However, the idea of Peter Parker and Wanda Maximoff as siblings is puzzling. In the comics, they have minimal interaction, and even less so in the MCU, so it’s unclear what motivated this storyline and the decision to make them siblings. While the title states that they are siblings, it’s possible for them to be adoptive siblings, which would allow Wanda to retain her Romani heritage, as depicted in the comics. Unless, of course, Peter Parker also becomes Romani.

“What If…Loki Was Worthy? A Loki and Valkyrie Story” is set to release on March 12, 2024.
