#Roommates, get ready to dive into the life of hip hop Queen Soul herself, Mary J. Blige, as a new documentary about her is underway thanks to a collaboration with Amazon Studios and eOne.
We have just celebrated the 25th anniversary of his second-grade album, “My Life,” which defines a career and defines a career. Mary J. Blige has another major reason to celebrate these days. @Deadline reports that Oscar-winning filmmaker Vanessa Roth is producing an untitled documentary on the life and career of our beloved MJB.
The project would tell Mary’s life in the music industry and reflect the emotional journey she took to become one of the most iconic artists in R & B history. The documentary will also focus on Mary’s past struggles against poverty, abuse, addiction and grief, while following her on a special concert tour to perform “My Life” on her 25th birthday.
Matt Newman, co-head of movies at Amazon Studios, said this about the upcoming project:
“We all know Mary J. Blige as the two-time Grammy Award-nominated Oscar nominee who has sold more than 80 million records. But through this documentary, the public will see a raw and honest side of Mary J. Blige opening up on her personal journey of redemption and healing. We are excited to share with our global Prime Video customers this unique and unseen look at world legend Mary J. Blige. “
Tara Long, president of eOne’s unscheduled global channel, shared the same sentiments about Mary J. Blige and the documentary:
“I have long admired Mary as an artist, icon and strong, fearless woman. The story of her life has inspired us immensely and we are delighted to realize this project with her and her team, Ashaunna and Nicole. Mary’s album “My Life” is both iconic and impressive in scope. We hope that by showing it on the screens, we will continue to inspire audiences around the world, as has been the case for decades. “
Mary will be the executive producer of the documentary, but no release date has been announced yet. To help you until that falls, you can expect to see it play in the first spin-off of “Power” scheduled for next year.
