Throughout the series so far the former One Show host’s mum Janice, can be seen using crutches due to a previous accident when she was knocked over by one of her Hampshire Down sheep, and was left needing knee surgery.

In a recent interview, the presenter recalled his dad telling him of her injury.

“My dad told me that Mum had had an accident,” he remembered, “We went straight back home.”

Matt added: “I’ve never felt the need to step away in the way I did after the accident.

“The last thing you want is to see your parents struggling, and Mum was very vulnerable.”

And he admitted that emotion sometimes got the better of him and at points he found it hard to film.

“The hardest part for me was filming her in that situation,” he told Radio Times.

“I’ve never seen her like that.”

Our Farm in the Dales continues on More 4 on Wednesday at 9pm.
