Mazda’s New North American CEO Upgrades the Brand to a Higher Market Position

Mazda North American Operations is entering a period of opportunity as it moves towards electrification and focuses on expanding its luxury offerings, according to incoming CEO Tom Donnelly. Donnelly, who takes over from Jeff Guyton, said he relishes his timely appointment as Mazda readies its first national plug-in hybrid offering, with the simultaneous launch of the CX-90 and CX-70 crossovers specifically aimed at the US market. The CX-90 will be available next month and will be followed by the CX-70 later this year, both with plug-in hybrid powertrains. Donnelly said the latter two are part of Mazda’s multiphase plan, which aims to add an electrified model in the next year or two and a full line-up of vehicles by 2030. Though Donnelly contended that the company would not be fully electric by 2030, it aims to offer all-electric powertrains across every vehicle in its lineup by that time.
