Microsoft’s Gaming Division Addresses Plans to Bring First-Party Games to Other Consoles: What This Means for the Future of Xbox
Microsoft’s gaming division recently held an internal meeting to discuss the possibility of bringing some of its first-party games to other gaming consoles. According to journalist Shannon Liao, Phil Spencer, the head of gaming at Microsoft, reassured employees that Xbox has no plans to stop making consoles. He also stated that Xbox consoles will continue to be a part of their strategy, which involves “multiple kinds of devices.”
While Microsoft has not publicly confirmed reports that it could bring games like Starfield to PlayStation 5, they have announced a “business update” event for next week. Phil Spencer wrote on X, “We’re listening and we hear you. We’ve been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.”
Reports suggest that Xbox exclusives like Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, and Indiana Jones might be released on PS5 as part of a strategy shift for Microsoft’s gaming division. This potential move represents a significant change in Microsoft’s gaming strategy, as it has previously kept its biggest new first-party releases exclusive to its consoles.
While these reports have not been officially confirmed, they have caused concern within the Xbox community. Some influencers with large followings have speculated that this could mark the beginning of the end of Microsoft’s console business.
