Mike Trout hits home runs more than 470 feet and grabs them by jumping deep into the outfield. There are few restrictions on what he can do in a baseball diamond.
But his height as the best player of the race and the MLS Sporting News athlete of the decade does not come from individual cases that surprise viewers. His greatness reaches a steady flow, always there.
“I would not say there is only one (separate) moment,” Angers Heaney, a left-handed athlete, told Sporting News. “But that’s what makes him great. He doesn’t have moments. He just does it every day.”

In the last eight seasons, Trout has hit more than .300 five times, finished with a .430 at least one percent shooting percentage and started at least 35 home runs on four occasions. He has won three MVPs and made an All-Star team at every season of his career.
At 28, he has already established himself as the greatest player of all time in the franchise, though the Angels have yet to build a worthy contender around him.
Trout is the subject of tremendous appreciation and respect by those at Club Angels, including the first King Albert Pujols, who was perhaps the best MLB artist of the past decade.
“I’m very excited to be able to play and wear the same outfit with him,” Pujols told SN. “Knowing that he will do something special almost every night. I’m just blessed to have the opportunity. “
Because Trout enjoys privacy and does not want public presence when not playing, he is regarded by many as a quiet superstar. In fact, his introspective outlook has occasionally led to criticism – Commissioner Robert Manfred cited it last year as part of the reason behind MLB’s inconsistent commercial success.
Within his own ranks, however, the outlook is absolutely positive.

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons became visibly frustrated thinking of any strangers who might have needles in Trout’s personality. Simmons (and Heaney) brought Trout’s passion for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and how he uses his love of football as a way to get his teammates to feel better. They also mentioned the outfielder’s vocal affinity for hunting and said they appreciated the lack of arrogance in his day-to-day interactions with teammates.
“People who know him know who he is,” Simmons told SN. “They know how funny it can be, how great a player is, how accessible he is to everyone.”
It is a testament to Trout’s production that he has become the gold standard of baseball, despite the fact that he only reached one after another and preferred to remain relatively anonymous. He had a decade of baseball on his own terms.
It’s not near the end of his career, his achievements are historic.
“If he literally stopped playing baseball tomorrow he would still be a Hall of Famer,” Heaney said. “You’re just a kind of awe.”

Next decade belongs to: Mike Trout
The greatest players of all time in every major US sport. did much of their best work after turning 28. Tom Brady won three Super Bowls, won three MVPs and threw 412 passes on arrival. Michael Jordan has won four NBA championships and won two MVPs over this time (and LeBron James has accumulated similar achievements). Wayne Gretsky recorded 1,020 points. Barry Bonds hit 540 home runs. Hank Aaron hit in 457.
Trout, then, is well positioned to remain at the top of baseball for most of 2020 and possibly make its mark as the top player ever. It is verified in every aspect of the game and while some skills can be eroded with age, all of his talents should make it difficult for anyone to shadow him.
