2019 was an excellent year for Missy Elliott, who dropped her ICONOLOGY EP prior to getting the Video Lead Award at the VMAs and commemorating with a career-spanning performance. Now, Missy is bringing her icon status into the brand-new years with her most current top-notch visual, for the ICONOLOGY standout “Why I Still Love You.”
The clip– which Elliott directed in addition to Derek Blanks– opens on a wide-eyed, tracksuit-wearing girl roaming a museum of all things Missy. We’re then carried into three various ages of Elliott: first she leads a Shirelles-esque lady group in the ’60 s, then she’s a disco queen in the ’70 s, and lastly, she rocks a mohawk and studs for her ’80 s punk rock launching. There’s even an adorable twist ending, some ace acting from Missy, and a cameo from Monica, who recites the legend of Missy and The Dispositions. Get schooled in the video listed below.
The “Why I Still Love You” video follows Thursday early morning’s statement that Elliott will heading the Governors Ball Music Celebration in New York this summertime. She’ll be striking the phase along with Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Solange, Miley Cyrus, and more.
