The centers said the two cases are unrelated and may be the result of internal transmission.

She added that the first case of the disease was recorded in a small child living in California, and the second case was in a non-resident infant in the United States. U.S. public health officials are currently investigating how two children became infected.

She added that both have symptoms of the disease but are in good health and are being treated with an antiviral drug called tecovirimat or TPOXX, which the CDC recommends for children under eight years of age as they are considered to be more susceptible to infections. .
