Morocco: The legitimacy of authority in Libya will be decided through the elections

In a continuation of Arab and international efforts seeking to support Libya in restoring its stability and stressing that the next elections will be held in time, the Moroccan foreign minister revealed that there is a Libyan and international consensus that the question of the legitimacy of power in the country must be resolved through a transparent electoral law.

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita added, today, Wednesday, in a joint press conference in Rabat with the vice president of the Libyan Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Koni, which the two sides discussed to support the political path in Libya.

For his part, the vice president of the Libyan presidential council stated that “the Moroccan foreign minister has informed him that the president of the Libyan House of Representatives will go in Morocco to find solutions to the rest of the political crisis in Libya. “

The dialogue forum did not reach an agreement

This is happening while the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum is still holding its meetings to discuss the constitutional basis for the conduct of next December’s elections.

On August 11, the forum held a virtual meeting to reach a decision on the constitutional basis, according to the UN mission in Libya, without reaching an agreement.

These meetings are aimed at making final decisions and voting to choose one of the four proposals presented by the Consensus Committee issued by it, relating to the constitutional basis for the next elections.

4 proposals for the constitutional rule

It is noteworthy that the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General and head of the UN support mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, on the 5th of this month, in a letter to the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, he reported, the four basic constitutional proposals drawn up by the Consensus Committee.

In his letter, Kubis indicated that the commission has also reached an agreement on a voting mechanism.

He also stressed that when considering any of these proposals, it is important to fully respect the condition that none of these proposals violate the commitment you have made to the Libyan people to hold elections within the deadlines set by the Road Map.

Last July, the Italian capital, Rome, hosted Libyan consultations to discuss the preparation of the constitutional basis and legal basis for the general elections, in a meeting that was considered at the time as the last chance to save the date of the electoral deadline.
