The Russian military confirmed on Saturday that it had prevented a shipment of foreign weapons from reaching Ukrainian forces through heavy attacks launched on Friday in Ukraine and caused power outages in the whole country.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement: “A major precision weapons attack was carried out on Friday, December 16, targeting Ukrainian military command systems, a military and industrial complex, and energy sites.” The strikes also affected energy structures and military administrative structures.

He added: “The objective has been achieved. All identified sites have been targeted.”

And he continued: “As a result of the strike, a shipment of foreign-made weapons and ammunition was prevented, as well as preventing the advance of reserves (of Ukrainian forces) to combat zones, and suspending the work of manufacturing weapons and repair companies”.

And Ukraine announced on Friday that it was being subjected to new Russian rocket attacks, which led to a water cut in the capital, Kiev, and the loss of electricity in the whole country.

Ukrainian officials said Russia fired more than 70 missiles at Ukraine on Monday, in one of the largest attacks since the start of the military operation, cutting power to the country’s second largest city and forcing Kiev to implement emergency blackouts in the whole country.
